We all know that having a dog is hard work, no secret there. But, having a dog in the city can make things even more challenging. And believe me, I try to take Drake on long runs every single day, I mean, we run all over these Dallas streets! However… sometimes, I just can muster up the energy to put on those jogging shoes and hit the road, you know the feeling! And when this happens… MOM GUILT hits, to the max!
Luckily, we live in the GREATEST city in the world (yes, the WORLD) and have over 25 off-leash dog parks in the Dallas area. That’s 25 different places that allow your pup to run wild and free, and burn all of that energy. Dog parks truly are my saving grace! Especially since Drake is an “only child,” I want to make sure that he not only is able to play hard and be active, but I also want to keep him socialized and interacting with other dogs! I believe this is a huge component of a dog’s happiness and when participating responsibly, dog parks are a fantastic solution!
Below I have listed, what I consider to be, the top 5 dog parks in the DFW area! I have included the address of each park along with the hours they are open! I personally know how terrible it is to get your dog’s tail wagging by saying those two very special words “dog park” only to arrive and see CLOSED across the gate. So, best advice, plan ahead and check the schedule beforehand!
And as always, remember to be friendly and PICK UP AFTER YOU PET.

Bush Central Barkway
3581 N Central Expy, Richardson, TX 75023
This park is a personal favorite of a fellow Dallas dog mom! I talked to her about the local dog parks and she told me what all the bark was about at Barkway!
“Darla and I have been lucky enough to explore several dog parks around the Dallas area and our favorite, paws down, is Bush Central Barkway! We like it because it’s clean and well maintained. It’s also a good size to let your dog romp around, but not so big that you need to follow them to the other side of the park to keep tabs. Also, the people who frequent the park are awesome! We have made good friends there, both human and canine alike.”
